Guide Review - Wildcraft Board Game

The first thing you will notice about Wildcraft, is the beautiful illustrations. From the highly colorful board, to the trouble and plant id cards, each picture is clearly designed with careful eye to detail.

Played with up to four players, Wildcraft allows for plenty of cooperation, as they try to work their way to the center of the spiral, to the huckleberry patch. Once there, the players then can work together to harvest their berries and travel back to grandma's house.

There were a few reasons that this game was such a hit.

  • All the players were on the same level of play. The pre-reader could take a turn and decide what choice to make, without having to read. Once he started to recognize the plants on the cards, he could choose his answer and tell what the name was.
  • The pace was quick enough to keep interest and yet move along. It is difficult to keep so many ages of players happy in a single game. They are often too long or mind numbingly short, so some players are uncomfortable. Not so with Wildcraft. It moved along quickly enough to suit everyone.
  • There were no clear losing players. With cooperation cards, there were chances for the last place player to skip ahead to meet the other players, as well as chances for the youngest player to choose to help any of the other players.
