Aqua globes are glass bulb watering units that are attractive and add interest to your indoor gardens. They fill easily at the kitchen sink and are inserted into the plant soil. The water will be released into the soil as needed, to ensure an even moisture level for many days.
In my experience, the Aqua Globe is a unique and attractive addition to my indoor gardens. They are beautifully crafted and are a fun gift for anyone with indoor plants. Aqua Globes are not as effective as the ads claim, however. Once filled, the long stem is supposed to be inserted into the soil to release the water at the roots. The directions are written on a small piece of paper that is easily lost in the packaging. Unless you find these directions, you would not know that the stem can and will become packed with soil, rendering it useless for letting water out. Before inserting, it is necessary to pre-drill a hole for the tube with a pencil or other long, thin object to lesson the chance of this happening.
The globe only holds about 1 1/2 cups of water. This is slowly released into the soil and the ad claims it will last for up to 2 weeks. Clearly, this is not enough water for a moisture loving plant on a sunny windowsill. It is important that you still monitor the actual moisture level and water by hand when needed.
The stem has to be inserted into soil enough to not tip over. For shallow rooted plants, this will be too deep to be effective. The globe is very heavy, especially when filled with water. Once inserted into the soil, the weight of the globe may slowly tip it to the side, resulting in the globe unexpectedly falling at a later time.
