How To Make Ginger Beer Starter

Before making ginger beer, you must have a starter culture. Here is a recipe for making ginger beer starter from wild yeast.

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 2 tsp ginger root with the skin on, grated or chopped-it doesn't matter.
  • 2 tsp cane sugar
  • 1 Cup water

Preparation:

Grate or chop unpeeled ginger root. In a glass jar, place grated ginger and sugar. Pour water over all to cover. Stir well. Leave in a warm spot and cover. Stir each day. On second day, mixture should be bubbly. If not used, feed fermented mixture by adding ginger and sugar in above amounts. There is no specific measurement here. Fermenting is not an exact science.  Just remember to feed your ginger bug with sugar and add water as needed. You can slow the ginger bug by placing in the refrigerator. If so, feed it only once a week to keep it healthy. 

After you use your starter, add more water/ sugar to the ginger.

Think somethings missing. The item is how to make a ginger beer starter with yeast, which I know from the past was one of the active ingredients. Problem is recipe does not list or mention yeast..............................what am I missing here???????
