How To Make Basil Spread

Use this easy to make spread, as a condiment on sandwiches,a base for salad dressings, and a main flavor contender for your next grill party.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: 10 minutes

Here's How:

  1. Pick fresh basil leaves.
  2. Place in blender or food processor.
  3. Blend with enough oil to make a smooth paste.
  4. Add pinch of salt to taste.
  5. Add one teaspoon of lemon juice per cup of spread to prevent discoloring.
  6. Use as a spread. Can be frozen for winter use.

Tips:

  1. Use plain, as a spread on sandwiches. Try fresh sliced tomato!
  2. Thin with a bit more oil and vinegar for a fresh salad dressing.
  3. Add enough oil to make a thin slurry, baste chicken on the grill.
  4. Add equal parts mayo and sour cream for a great veggie dip.

What You Need:

  • Basil leaves
  • Olive oil
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tsp. lemon juice per cup of blended basil
  • glass container with tight lid for storage
  • Blender or food processor
