Harden Your Herbs

Monday April 14, 2008

Each day brings more sunshine. I have to harden off my herbs grown indoors. This is an easy but essential task that often has us running out in a moment of clarity and saving a tray of teeny lavender plants, before they fry in the midday sun. Marie Iannotti, About.com's Guide to Gardening, has a great article about hardening off plants, that applies to the herb gardeners as well.

Your baby herbs will aqquire a faded and/or shriveled look if they become scalded by early spring sun. If you buy your herbs straight from a greenhouse grower, you may find that a couple of days in and out of the sun should harden them off nicely.
