
According to the American Botanical Council, for the first time ever, the FDA approved an orally administered botanical as a new drug.
Salix Pharaceuticals Ltd, has received approval for their drug crofelemer, for treating HIV-related diarrhea.
This drug is derived from the latex of the South American sangre de drago tree, AKA Dragon's Blood. The name comes from the blood red colored of the latex.
According to Salix, the drug will be available in early 2013.
