Mint in Winter

By December 1, 2008

Mint is one of my favorite herbs. It is light, refreshing and loved by just about everyone. I have it growing on my desk so I can pull of a leaf every now and then, to chew on while I type.

Mint grows super fast, very easy and requires only good lighting and regular watering to thrive. You will notice that the more you pinch it back in a pot, the thicker it grows. Where it often becomes leggy in your garden, such micromanagment in a small space, results in a much more compact plant.

If you have a mint plant growing right now, pinch it back and you will have enough new growth to divide it for a gift in a few weeks-just in time for Christmas. Even if you havent been keeping your mint tightly pinched back, you can snip long stems, place a few into an interesting glass bottle, and offer it as a simple gift for unexpected guests or as a quick gift for a friend. Mint can live forever rooted only in water.
